But God Chose The Foolish Things

September's "But God" statement takes a look at 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 where we read that God chooses the foolish, lowly and weak things of this world to shame the strong and bring His name glory.

So often, God's ways challenge our worldly perspective on things and turn everything we know upside down. I'd say this is definitely one of those times!

I hope these poetry verses and Scriptures can encourage us today to commit everything we have over to the Lord with a humble heart. May we be inspired to trust that no matter how inadequate we may feel, when our efforts are for Jesus' glory then He can use us mightily in service for His Kingdom!
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.  But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”

"Two words within the Bible that cut right through the strife.
Two simple words with power that can change a person’s life.
These words can speak to every heart, whatever path is trod.
We know in every circumstance, apply the words, “But God…”

We often think to be of use we must have fame or power,
That riches are required to be used by God this hour.
But God looks not at worldly wealth or strength in which to boast.
A humble and devoted heart is what He values most!"

1 Peter 5:5
“Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.””

Colossians 3:23-24
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Point Of Praise
I praise and thank You Lord for choosing me in spite of all my weaknesses and failings. I know I can’t boast in any gifts, skills, riches, knowledge or wisdom before You. I can only boast in Christ and the power of Your Holy Spirit who works through me for Your glory. I thank You that You called me to Your Kingdom’s service and that any influence I have is because of You and You alone.
May I never forget what I was when You called me lest I think too highly of myself. Yet may I rejoice each day in the wonderful truth that You chose me and I am now a new creation!
