Straight Into The Arms Of Jesus

One afternoon in July 2023, I was listening to a sermon by my Pastor, Alwyn Wall as part of my research for a poetry series I was writing at the time. He was teaching on Matthew 9:18-26 where we hear about the woman with the issue of blood as well as a man called Jairus, whose young daughter had died.

In the middle of the sermon, Alwyn explained that he often has people asking him what happens to the soul of a baby or a young child when they die. Before he went on to answer this heartbreaking question, I heard myself respond with the words, “They go straight into the arms of Jesus.”

I suddenly felt the Holy Spirit place the weight of these words into my heart and with tears in my eyes, I soon found myself writing my little poem. I pray these words can offer even a flicker of comfort and peace to anyone who may be going through the terrible sorrow of losing a little one. May the God of all comfort guard your heart as we await the glorious reunion that’s promised to us in Heaven one day.

Straight into the arms of Jesus, I commend your soul to Thee.
Straight into the arms of Jesus, Heaven-bound and Heaven-free.
Spared from earthly woe and trouble. Saved from sorrow, grief and strife.
Never knowing pain or heartache. Knowing only joy and life.

Straight into the arms of Jesus, welcomed home by Christ’s embrace.
I will hold you in my heart as Jesus gently holds your face.
Finding peace and rest in knowing you are safe within His care.
Trusting He will bring me comfort ’til my soul can meet you there.

Straight into the arms of Jesus I surrender all my plans.
Taking all my hopes and dreams, I place them now within His hands.
Looking t’ward that blesséd promise when forever we will be
Together in the arms of Jesus, Heaven-safe and Heaven-free.

Matthew 19:14
“Jesus said,
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.””

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

2 Corinthians 5:8
“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”

Revelation 21:4
“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
