Jesus Is Our Righteousness

For the start of July we return to my "Jesus Is..." series. So far this year we've looked at just some of the incredible things that Jesus is to us. We've seen that Jesus is our Creator, Father, Friend, Saviour, Warrior and Advocate. What a list!

This month, we focus on the fact that Jesus is our Righteousness. Praises to Jehovah Tsidkenu! The Lord my Righteousness!

Jesus Is...Our Righteousness

2 Corinthians 5:21
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

"Jesus is our Righteousness, He cleansed us from our sin.
The punishment that we deserved was transferred onto Him.
We’re pure within the sight of God through nothing we have done;
Our record of all wrongs erased through Christ, the Risen Son!"

1 Corinthians 1:30-31
“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.””

Isaiah 61:10
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Jeremiah 23:6
“In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

Let's Pray
Lord Jesus, I know that I have been washed and purified because of Your great love for me. I thank You Lord that my righteousness comes from the work You have done and not from my own efforts.
I know I can’t earn acceptability before God the Father through my own deeds. Your Word tells me that my “righteous acts” are like filthy rags compared to the glorious robes You have clothed me in.
Likewise, I know my failings can’t change or touch my position before God. I am accepted and embraced by the Father not because of who I am but because of where I am in You, Jesus.
Remind me today Lord to rest in this knowledge. Nothing I do can make me righteous in Your eyes. It’s the Cross and the Cross alone that makes me acceptable in Your sight. Thank You that through my faith in You I have the gift of righteousness today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
