Fall In Love

I was over the moon when my lovely friend and sister-in-Christ, Katy got engaged in August 2022. She and her new fiancĂ©, David asked me if I would write a poem especially for their wedding day and it was my absolute pleasure to say yes! Of course before a single word was written, I had to pray for inspiration first and ask the Lord to lead me! Thankfully I soon felt inspired to write my poem called, “Fall In Love.”

Having been married for over 13 years at the time of writing this poem, I felt the best advice I could give a couple at the beginning of their journey as husband and wife would be to pursue Jesus as the central focus of their relationship.

I once heard an analogy that said a Christian marriage is like a triangle. Jesus is the point at the top and the husband and wife are the points opposite each other at the bottom. The idea is that the closer you draw to Jesus at the peak, the closer you’ll draw to each other. It was this lovely image, among other things that I hoped to capture within my poem.

I pray these words can be used not just by me for Katy’s wedding but also by many others to bless the Bride and Groom on their special day too. May Jesus be the focus of every Christian marriage, helping us and inspiring us to be the best spouses we can be to our partners. May we always allow our First Love to captivate our hearts as we choose daily, to fall in love with Him!

Oh what a wondrous miracle! It takes my breath away.
Oh how my heart now celebrates on this, your Wedding Day!
The Lord has truly answered prayers, it makes my spirit sing.
I praise God for His goodness and give glory to our King!

We’re gathered here to witness this great moment in your life;
The start of your adventure, now as husband and as wife.
My soul is filled with joy as I give honour to the Son.
His faithfulness shines brightly as He joins your lives as one.

Your family and friends rejoice, at this, the very start.
What God now joins together, let no one tear apart.
I offer up a prayer of which I’ll share now, if I may.
My prayer is that you fall in love with Jesus every day.

He’s perfect and unfailing, a truth we can perceive!
Fulfilled by Him alone, He’ll give your marriage space to breathe.
Yes fall in love with Jesus and make Him your pursuit.
Place Him at the centre and watch your lives bear fruit!

Let Him be the One who leads through seasons of all weather.
He’s the One who’ll strengthen you and keep you close together.
Set Him as your Rearguard and trust Him to protect.
Defender of His children, Jesus never will neglect.

He’ll place His arms around you and guide you with His grace.
He’ll carry and sustain you through the challenges you face.
He will be your Counsellor and always will provide.
He’ll help you grow together as you journey, side by side.

When darker times come visiting, turn towards the Son.
He’ll help you stand victorious when tribulations come.
He will be your Comforter in times of woe or illness.
He’ll help you overlook each flaw and help you show forgiveness.

Fall in love with Jesus and give Him all your plans!
Devote yourself to Him and place your marriage in His hands.
You’ll fill His heart with gladness as you dedicate your days.
A union led by Christ will never fail to bring Him praise!

Encourage one another to read His Word each day.
Yes fall in love with Jesus for His love will light your way!
Share the things He teaches you and pray for one another.
Drawing close to Christ will draw you closer to each other.

His love is like an ocean, a strong and mighty force.
You’ll find His love is tireless, a truly endless source.
With great anticipation for all God has in store,
We look towards your future, for all He has and more!

Yes fall in love with Jesus and seek to bring Him glory.
Render all and let Christ be the Author of your story.
May happiness be yours and every blessing from above!
From this day on and evermore, oh may you fall in love.

1 John 4:7-12
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.”

Philippians 2:12-13
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

Ephesians 3:20-21
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
