A Shakespearean Infatuation

As part of my "Other Poems" series this year, I thought we could enjoy a fun little poem about one of my favourite pooches, Romeo. I felt this particular poem might be fitting for this week in the approach to Valentine's Day, as the name Romeo is of course linked to one of the most renowned love stories of all time!

My Romeo may be a little fluffy dog in Florida, but I imagine many of us can relate to the joy that comes with the unconditional love of a fur baby! I find they're such a gift from our wonderful Creator and can bring so much happiness into a dreary day. Whether you're an animal lover or not, I pray this poem can bring you a smile and inspire us to give thanks for the furry friends in our lives! L x
Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?
Your little ginger, fluffy ways make it hard for me to go!
Your heart is full of passion, and you live up to your name.
But woe! We must be parted as I leave to board a plane.

We’ve had such fun with all the daily walks that we would take.
We had to dodge the ‘gators while avoiding every snake!
It certainly got interesting along those dusty paths!
You filled my time on holiday with joy and many laughs.

You’d greet me with unbridled love and leap into my arms.
It’s safe to say you swiftly won me over with your charms!
Our bond was undeniable. I “heart” your cute, wee face.
Your doggy paws would follow me all over every place.

You loved to curl up by my side, your favourite new tradition.
With gentlemanly manners, you would wait for my permission!
You’d join me on the couch each night to come and take your nap.
Contentedly, you’d rest your head and snooze upon my lap.

Tired out from keeping Big Fat Ginger Cat in check,
I’d bring you up for cuddles, and you’d wrap around my neck.
A chance to get affection was a thing you’d never miss.
But though I do adore you, I’d avoid your beefy kiss!

And yet, I’d always scratch your ears and ruffle up your fur.
I’d whisper my sweet nothings to a truly splendid sir.
I felt so wholly welcomed and embraced within your pack.
Oh Romeo, I pray it won’t be long ’til I am back.

Although I’m broken-hearted that our time has reached its end,
One day I will return, and we can start the fun again!
Fear not, my little friend, for this is not a tale of woe.
I’ll always be your Juliette, and you, my Romeo.
