Don't Race Ahead

In January we kicked off my "Spiritual Shorts" series with my poem "Don't Look Back". This month's edition takes the flip side of that with "Don't Race Ahead".

Some helpful questions to ask ourselves today might be, "Am I trying to race ahead of God just now? Am I trying to rush a certain situation because I’ve grown impatient waiting for God to move or provide me with something I want? Am I rushing into something just now because I’ve grown tired of waiting?"

If the answer to any of these is "yes", then I pray these verses and meditations can be helpful to you. Much love, Lucy x

Spiritual Shorts- Don't Race Ahead

Psalm 9:10
“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.”

Don’t race ahead of Me, My Love. Don’t try to race ahead.
I know the plans I have for you, so trust in Me instead.
I see your heart’s desires, for I’m the King of kings.
I also see the road ahead and know just what it brings.

Stay with Me and wait, My Love. Remain in My embrace.
You’ll need My strength and wisdom for the challenges you’ll face.
Don’t fret, for I am with you; with Me you will be fine.
Keep close as I reveal all things in good and perfect time.

Rest within My sovereignty, stay calm, and take My hand.
Don’t let impatience overtake and ruin what I’ve planned.
Let your days be filled with faith, your years be Spirit-led.
I know what’s best and right for you. My Love, don’t race ahead.

Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

Questions For Personal Reflection
Am I trying to race ahead of God just now? Am I trying to rush a certain situation because I’ve grown impatient waiting for God to move or provide me with something I want? Am I rushing into something just now because I’ve grown tired of waiting? Is the thing I desire something that God wants for me or what I want for me? Am I certain that this desire has been put on my heart by Jesus or is it a result of the pressures of the world around me?
When I consider that God sees the road ahead and all the obstacles I have to face, does this encourage me to wait for His perfect timing? Have I prayed about whether it’s wise to move forward or not? If my desire for something has become more powerful than my love for God, can I honestly say this desire hasn’t become an idol to me?

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times when I’ve grown impatient and tried to race ahead of Your sovereign plan for me. Let nothing be done out of selfish ambition or vain conceit and may I not try to “make things happen” through a lack of patience and the arm of the flesh. Please give me wisdom for when it’s time to act and when it’s time to wait. Keep my heart and mind at rest in Your perfect peace today as I give the reins of my life over to You. May Your love, wisdom and Holy Word guide me as Your plans for my life gradually unfold, one day at a time. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
