Happy New Year and welcome to the first of my new series! This series I’ve written for 2025 is called, “Spiritual Shorts.” I’ve written these poems with the idea that they won’t come with an introduction but instead delve straight into a topic and then offer points for personal reflection at the end before closing in prayer.
These poems may speak to people differently, but I pray that they may be edifying to all and used to serve the Lord’s purposes within each of our hearts. May 2025 be a wonderful year for you. Love Lucy x

Psalm 86:11
“Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.”
Don’t look back My dearest one, My Love, do not look back.
Keep your focus set ahead, be strong, and stay on track.
Though Satan tries to stumble you with tales of days gone by,
Those feelings of nostalgia are naught but just a lie.
He’ll paint a rosy picture but give the past no thought,
For he will not remind you of the sorrow that it brought.
You won’t recall the misery or brokenness of sin.
The devil’s lies will twist the truth, so do not let them in.
Don’t look back My precious one, stand firm and raise your Sword.
You cannot serve two masters, so fight and serve your Lord!
Choose to be obedient; refuse to be divided.
With singleness of purpose, run and with a heart united!
Don’t listen to the fleshly lusts, that traitor built within.
Pursue the things of righteousness and give no place to sin.
Victory is up ahead, so thwart this vile attack!
Turn your face to Me, dear one! My Love, do not look back.
1 John 5:3
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.
And His commandments are not burdensome.”
Questions For Personal Reflection
Do I ever find myself looking back to my sinful past with longing? Do I think life was “more fun” before giving my heart to Jesus? If so, would I say my love for my Saviour has grown cold? Have I been tempted recently to fall back into old habits or sinful ways? What’s caused me to forget the emptiness of the past and lose the joy of salvation? Am I trying to live a compromised life with one foot in the world and one in the things of the Lord?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, it can be so tempting at this time of year to look back and dwell on the past. Whether I be tempted to look back with longing or maybe regret, Lord Jesus, I pray that as I enter this fresh New Year, let my heart and mind be undivided and solely focused on You.
I pray that any thoughts that cause nostalgia, sadness, or depression just melt away, and may they be replaced by Your perfect peace. Help me to set my focus on You and renew a steadfastness within my spirit for what You have for me today and every day.
May I look forward in hope and positive anticipation, following Your will for my life and resting in the knowledge that You will take care of me. Whatever this New Year holds, I pray You would use my life for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
