I Am The Life

John 14:6 reads,

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”"

The "I Am" Statements Of Jesus Christ- "I Am The Life."

Those who turn to Jesus and call upon His name
Are granted life eternal and their soul is born-again!
The chains of sin are broken and death has lost it’s sting.
Christ overcame the grave and so it’s His name that we sing!

Laud our mighty Saviour who gifts us with salvation,
Rejoice, for every child of God is now a new creation!
He liberates the captives from all eternal strife,
Praises to the great “I Am” for He, Himself is Life!

1 John 5:11-12
“And this is the testimony:
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in
his Son."
Whoever has the Son has life;
whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

1 John 5:20
“We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true.
And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life."

Points For Reflection
In these poetry verses, I draw attention to the Biblical fact that it’s only those who have put their faith in Jesus who can be called “Children of God.” Looking at the verses in 1 John 5 which I placed at the end, we see again how eternal life is promised to only those who have accepted Christ as Saviour.

One opinion I’ve heard expressed many times is the idea that every human being on Earth is a “Child of God” and that everyone created is automatically God’s child from birth. As appealing as this thought is, it’s not actually Biblically correct. The Bible tells us very clearly that we’re all born separated from God due to the issue of sin and that we’re actually “children of wrath.” It’s only when we repent and accept that Jesus paid for our sin on the Cross that we then become a child of God.

We read in the first few verses of Ephesians 2 that before we became Christians, we were all “dead in trespasses and sins” and “were by nature children of wrath.” This shows us clearly that although we had physical life we didn’t have spiritual life until we accepted Jesus as our Saviour. John 1:12 also tells us,

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”

We see the same truth expressed in John 3 when Jesus is talking to Nicodemus, one of the Pharisees and rulers of the Jews. Jesus explains to Nicodemus that for anyone to see the Kingdom of God they must be born again. Nicodemus goes on to ask how a person can be born when they are already old and we read Jesus’ answer in verses 5-7 where He says,

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’”

Jesus’ words here show us that there’s a very big difference between having physical life and having spiritual life and spiritual life is what He was referring to when He made the statement, “I Am the Life.”

If we want to be made alive to God during our time here on Earth and have the promise of eternal life after death then we have to turn to Jesus. He spoke the truth when He said that to have life, He is the only way.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour? Do you have that wonderful assurance and peace of knowing that your soul will have eternal life in Heaven when your earthly body passes away?
Do you know someone who believes they’ll have eternal life without Jesus? Is there a way that you can lovingly share the truth with them today?

There is so much depth and importance in Christ’s words in John 14:6 and these statements certainly give us plenty to dwell on. For the unbeliever, Jesus is the way to Heaven, not one of many. Jesus is the truth, not a truth. Jesus and only Jesus has the ability to give us eternal life. No one else can offer this.

There is also great encouragement for those of us who have already accepted Christ as Saviour and grasped these concepts in our heart. When trials have us feeling overwhelmed and we don’t know which way to turn, Jesus is the way! When difficulties cause us to feel confused and we don’t know what to believe, Jesus is the truth! When we feel dead inside and aren’t sure if we can carry on, Jesus is the life!

May this trio of truths fill us with joy, gratitude and confidence today as we stand on the solid ground of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth and the life!
