I Am The Truth

John 14:6 reads,

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”"

The "I Am" Statements Of Jesus Christ- "I Am The Truth."

Our Saviour spoke of Heaven and the path that we must walk,
His truth remains unshakeable and solid as a rock.
Let not your heart be troubled, though others may deceive,
Jesus Christ is Truth itself! In Him we can believe!

Sent from God the Father, He came to make us new.
Such peace we have in knowing that His every word is true!
Christ’s death and resurrection are testament and proof,
Praises to the great “I Am” for Jesus is the Truth!

John 8:32
“And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

Points For Reflection
Something we hear so often these days is the idea that “truth” is subjective. So many times I hear people say things such as, “I’ll tell you my truth” or “my truth is different to yours.”

In reality what they’re really saying is, “I’ll tell you my opinion” or “my viewpoint is different to yours.” Truth isn’t subject to change and is firmly based on fact. If something is Truth, then it doesn’t bend to our preferences or morph into something more palatable, simply to fit into our perception of things. Truth is outside of our “box” and stands firm whether we believe in it or not.

When Jesus said, “I am the truth,” He wasn’t promising to teach us a truth, He was saying He is the truth! He was highlighting the fact that He was the embodiment of truth itself!

He was also showing us that He is the truth, not a truth. Just as He said He was the way, not a way among many to choose from. Jesus wasn’t suggesting He was one of several options on offer, depending on preference or interpretation. He was making it clear that salvation lies with Him and Him alone; a fact grounded in the unchanging, unwavering truth.

The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 2:22,

“He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.”

Peter is referencing Isaiah 53:9 here and these verses are speaking of Jesus. There was no dishonesty found in Jesus at all and every word He ever spoke was true. Not a single lie ever left His lips and so it certainly seems wise for us to listen to what He has to say!

The reality is, there is no truth outside of Christ and so when He says He is the only way for any of us to enter Heaven, we must take stock and consider wholeheartedly the depth and impact of His words. Our souls depend upon it.

Have you heard people speak about “their truth” when what they really mean is “their opinion?” Have you ever found yourself saying those words or words to that affect? Have you ever been tempted to try and change or adapt God’s truth in order to accommodate a compromise in your life?

I love what Isaiah 40:8 says. It reads,

“The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

It’s so true. Everything else in life fades away but truth doesn’t change, Jesus doesn’t change and God’s Word doesn’t change. It remains the same throughout every age because so too does the Author. I remember I once read a quote from Charles Spurgeon where he said,

“One era’s wisdom is another era’s folly.”

In other words, society’s standards are constantly changing and what one generation thinks is wise and right, another generation will write off as wrong and immoral. We certainly see how that’s true when we look through history.

Society’s ideas of “right and wrong” are constantly adapting and this is why as Christians, we don’t go on what society says. Our guide and our plumb line is the Bible because as we’ve just heard in Isaiah, the Word of God stands forever. It’s truth is unchanging and is applicable to all generations whether we agree with it or not.

Let’s pray we’re never tempted to play fast and loose with God’s Word or the truth. Compromise and deception don’t save souls. Only the truth does. Only Jesus saves.

May God use our lives to share Jesus, the Truth with others today!
