One Another

In October 2023, my husband and I were on holiday in Florida to visit his family. His Aunt Carol asked me if I had a poem that focused on the verses of the Bible that mention the words, “one another.” These two words appear many times together throughout Scripture and Carol was going to be speaking at a Ladies’ Conference where “One Another” was their theme.

I had a look through my poems and realised that although many of them touched on the subjects found within these verses, none of them seemed to come directly from that specific angle. As always, I love it when I find a gap in my poetry ministry and decided to pray about filling that space with a new poem!

Although there are hundreds of places in Scripture where we find the words, “one another,” I decided to focus on just a few verses. Thankfully, the Lord quickly placed a message in my heart and one key passage I honed in on, was Romans 12:4-5. Those verses read,

“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.”

A second section of the Bible that I used as a main focal point was Ephesians 4:25. The verse reads,

“Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbour,” for we are members of one another.”

I wrote the words of my poem from the point of view that it’s a loving letter of instruction and advice from the perspective of God the Father, straight to His children. It really is such a precious and privileged thing to be a part of the family of God. I pray these words can inspire us to strive to keep unity within the Body of Christ with a fierce love and passionate loyalty towards one another. May we truly value the heavenly gift of family and look out for the interests of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Belovéd children, precious ones, heed My voice today.
May your hearts be open to the things that I will say.
Seek to bless your brethren, whether sister or a brother.
As members of My family, take care of one another.

Be kind and be affectionate, let gentleness prevail.
Give preference to each other’s needs, may patience never fail.
Give honour to your siblings and serve with joyful glee.
Do all for Christ your Saviour for in this, you’re serving Me.

Bear with one another and share their heavy load,
Help each other journey down life’s long and troubled road.
You do not know the battles that they face in heart and mind,
So seek to be encouraging and always to be kind.

Judge not another’s servant, give bitterness no place.
May thoughts of mercy overflow and fill your words with grace.
Don’t envy or provoke or set your mind on prideful things.
Submit your life unto My will, Your Sovereign King of kings.

Lend no ear to gossip which is evil in it’s essence.
Permit no tongue to slay what’s Mine while standing in your presence.
Stop them in their tracks and point to what My Scriptures say;
That they should seek to reconcile, then send them on their way.

Put an end to grumbling and self-centred complaints.
Such wicked words should not be found within the mouths of saints.
Speak the truth in love and give deceptive speech no room.
Don’t snap and bite each other, lest you too should be consumed.

Belovéd, life is hard enough so live in one accord.
Unity is precious in My sight, Your Righteous Lord.
Many are the enemies this world will throw at you,
Don’t seek to make an enemy within My family too.

Submit to one another and overlook the wrong,
Make melody within your hearts in psalms and hymns and songs.
Be lowly and long-suffering, let inner striving cease.
Edify your brethren and pursue the things of peace.

Confess when you have trespassed, don’t let it be concealed.
Ask for their forgiveness so the friendship can be healed
And when you have been wronged, forgive, as I’ve forgiven you.
As I have wiped the record clean, so you must also do.

Pray for one another, bring their needs before My Throne.
Pray with utter fervency as if they were your own!
Invest in intercession through seasons of all weather,
Join them in their sorrow and rejoice in song together!

Extend your hospitality and comfort one another.
Let your grace be evident to witness like no other.
Admonish, teach and minister, use your gifts to bless.
Make up for where each other lacks with humble tenderness.

Ignite each other’s love for Me, don’t try to walk alone.
Stir up works of righteousness and draw close to My Throne.
My body may have many members, yet you all are one.
Remember that each child of Mine is paid for by My Son.

Belovéd, you are called by name, a privilege divine.
Protect and guard this family. My children, you are Mine.
Let your conduct testify with fervour like no other.
Keep My ways, My treasured ones. Take care of one another.
