But God Comforts The Downcast

This month sees the end of my, "But God" series for 2023. In these verses, I've focused on some of the "But God" Scriptures which tell us, "But God...is always with us, gives the increase, fights our battles, raised Jesus from the dead, protects us, sees all people as equal, showed His love while we were still sinners, will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able, chose the foolish things, hears and with Him all things are possible." What an incredible list of truths that enable and encourage us as Christians.

We finish this series by taking a look at 2 Corinthians 7:5-7 which tells us, "But God comforts the downcast." Are you downcast this Christmastime? December can be tough. Please know you're not alone and our loving, caring and infinite God has an endless supply of compassion for those who are downcast and struggling this season.

I pray these verses and Scriptures can bless you today and I hope you've enjoyed this series. Much love, Lucy x

2 Corinthians 7:5-7
“For when we came into Macedonia, we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within.  But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.”

"Two words within the Bible that cut right through the strife.
Two simple words with power that can change a person’s life.
These words can speak to every heart, whatever path is trod.
We know in every circumstance, apply the words, “But God…”

Life can be discouraging, it makes the spirit ache.
So many sorrows weary us and cause our heart to break.
But God will bring us comfort and soothe us in our pain.
He ministers to those who hurt and call upon His name."

Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Matthew 5:4
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Point Of Praise
I praise and thank You Lord Jesus that You are a God who cares for His children when they hurt. I know that You understand the heartache and sorrows of life because You experienced them too. No-one appreciates the importance of compassion more than You. I’m so grateful that without me even having to speak a word, You know fully the sadness and sorrow that I feel. Thank You that You are right here with me, comforting and holding me through these times. Just knowing that I’m not alone makes the world of a difference. I praise You for the comfort and encouragement that You bring to my heart, mind and soul. Thank You Jesus.
