The Lady Ferniegair

This week we have another offering from my "Poems for the Pooches" category! This poem is called "The Lady Ferniegair", and was inspired by the lovely Fern.

When I go to record my voiceover work for Our Daily Bread, I head off to a studio here in London. Fern is the lady of the manor, and always greets me with such enthusiasm! This classy gal deserved a poem of her own and so I hope you enjoy my ode to her, "The Lady Ferniegair"!

PS Ferniegair is a place in Scotland, hence why it quickly came to my mind and became one of my nicknames for her! :)
I love a spot of poetry! My friends will all confirm.
And so it’s time I wrote some rhymes about a pooch named Fern!
Fern is truly glorious; a mix quite like no other.
She’s Labrador and Malamute and Poodle undercover!

No one knows the convoluted route from whence she came,
But Fern is quite distinguished with her sandy-coloured mane.
This bearded lady loves a brush; she’ll give a knowing wink.
Her nose is ever-sniffing with its little stripe of pink.

She loves her morning walk when she can chase the ball around.
Then watch you from the wooden floor, tongue out and cooling down.
Her gentle nature evident, this canine knows her worth.
But Fern can get quite riled up and will protect her turf!

Peering through the cat flap at more than pairs of feet,
She keeps a watchful eye out for the foxes on the street!
Fern is not a fan; they ruffle more than just her fur.
Those foxy fiends will swiftly know this house belongs to her!

It could be said that Fern’s become the local “fox-remover.”
Another thing she won’t abide is time spent near the hoover!
With all its noise and nozzles, she disdains that wretched thing.
Her ladyship despises all the chaos that it brings.

And yet it brings her something else. Yes, Fern now knows the score.
The hoover means I’m coming! I’ll be knocking at the door!
My presence means she’s put outside; this fills her mind with doubt.
Poor Fern is left confused and has a fear of missing out!

Her major case of FOMO really gives us quite a laugh,
For should the door be left ajar, she’s down that garden path!
Fern knows that I’m allergic, but though I cannot play;
I’ll always give “a fussy” at the end of every day.

Her hours in the studio have made her rather trendy.
A pup so sweet, she makes the neighbours truly green with envy!
She spends her time with Patrick and listens to each song.
Quietly she’ll watch as each musician comes along.

She’s earned herself some nicknames. Several, to be fair:
Like “Fernicus,” or “Duchess,” or “The Lady Ferniegair!”
A faithful, kind companion and a treasure from the start.
Fern fills your day with joy and then completely steals your heart.

"A friend loves at all times."
