Seeing as we're in the middle of a summer heatwave here in London, I thought it would be a fitting time to share my poem called "Eater's Remorse"!
I've adopted a saying that says "Anything you say or do in front of me can and will be used in a poem!" This scenario was no exception as these verses were inspired by an event that I witnessed recently with a loved one of mine. :) I hope you enjoy this humorous little poem and you may even want to heed it as a cautionary tale! Don’t try to distract or dissuade me. If you think that I’ll listen, I shan’t!
Yes, chocolate and ice cream for breakfast sounds perfectly kosher to me.
Don’t tell me that I shall regret it. I won’t! So just watch me; you’ll see!
I’ll crack through the sugary casing—a marvellous start to the day!
Then scoff the buttery ice cream while smacking my lips the whole way.
I’ll live in contented defiance and throw out society’s rules.
I’m far too mature to be burdened with the guidelines they teach you in schools.
I’ll indulge and enjoy my decision, quite convinced that I know what is best.
I’ll listen to only my stomach! And promptly ignore all the rest.
Yes, I’m eating my chocolate for breakfast; this ice cream is going down well.
I knew my idea was a good one! I’m pleased with myself, can you tell?
Now I’ve finished my chocolate for breakfast. The process was really quite easy.
All that’s left is the stick and the wrapper and the growing concern I feel queasy.
Who said to have chocolate for breakfast? Whose silly idea was all that?
I should have been told not to do it! And warned I’d feel bloated and fat.
The image had seemed so appealing. The glistening box was a teaser!
But now, looking back in reflection, it should have gone straight in the freezer.
I shouldn’t have heeded temptation or let the whim run its full course.
I insisted on chocolate for breakfast! And now I have eater’s remorse.
Proverbs 27:7
One who is full loathes honey from the comb,
but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
