If Only You Knew...

One thing that really saddens me in life is to see people fighting against God and hardening their heart towards Him. I’ve had many different conversations with people over the years about Jesus and what grieves me more than anything is to see a lost soul fighting against the One who can save them. I just feel like pleading with them and saying, “If only you knew! If only you knew how amazing He is you wouldn’t fight Him!”

God’s love astounds me on a regular basis and so I felt inspired to write a poem that would try to express these feelings and I gave it the title “If Only You Knew.” Words of course don’t do my Saviour justice. How can you describe the infinite wonders found in Christ with a finite number of words? You can’t but I thought I’d make an attempt at least in the hope that this poem can be used to share Jesus with the lost.

My prayer is that maybe one day, someone might read these words and feel inspired to let go of their preconceptions of Jesus and reach out to the Saviour who loves them beyond measure.
If only you knew the wonders of Jesus,
If only you’d open your heart and your mind,
If only you’d look to your God and your Maker,
You’d swiftly discover the joy there to find!

If only you knew the peace He can bring you,
If only you’d learn of His mercy and grace
Soon you’d be filled with love for your Saviour,
His Presence and Lordship you’d fully embrace!

If only you knew His power to heal you,
Resentment and anger dissolve in His hand.
Deep rooted bitterness flees in His presence
For all other powers obey His command.

If only you knew of His personal friendship,
Though often depicted as distant and cold,
He’s filled with compassion, kindhearted and caring.
Such marvellous benefits there to unfold!

If only you’d see He’s been misrepresented,
The faults of mankind are not charged to His name.
Jesus has nothing to do with ambition,
Or those who seek glory and personal gain.

If only you’d give Him a moment to show you,
Wholeheartedly search for the God there to find.
I know He’d completely dispel in a heartbeat
The image you’ve already formed in your mind.

If only you’d see that He isn’t “religion,”
He isn’t a “system” where errors are rife.
Christ is the Author and One, True Creator!
He is the Way and the Truth and the Life!

If only you knew that He’s bought your redemption,
He’s cleared every debt and paid for your sin!
If you would acknowledge His day at Golgotha,
Cleansed and forgiven you’d stand before Him.

If only you knew my opinions don’t matter,
Perhaps you would see I wish not to sound grand.
If only you’d notice I force no agenda
But long for your soul to know Jesus first-hand.

For who could contain Good News of such measure?
This isn’t a battle of “me versus you.”
It’s Christ I commission and share with great passion.
Dear friend, He’s amazing! If only you knew!

If only you’d see that you were created,
Designed by your Maker who formed you with love.
If you would be open to learn of His goodness
You wouldn’t contend with your Saviour above!

For you would encounter His grace beyond measure,
If you were prepared to question your stance.
You could be stunned and in awe of His power,
If you would be willing to give Him a chance.

If only you’d look to the Babe in the manger,
The image that every December will bring.
If only you’d see that this innocent Baby
Is Jesus your Saviour, Jehovah your King!

If only you knew the pain that He suffered,
I ask you to look to His death on the Cross.
If only you’d grasp in your heart for a moment
The love Jesus showed you when paying your cost.

Then you would know your infinite value,
Then you could understand how much you’re worth!
You’d see that your life has purpose and meaning,
Written by Jesus and placed on this Earth.

Yet all of these matters, I only can tell you.
I can’t make you dwell on the truths I impart.
Please know that I care not for “rules” and “religion,”
I worship my King for His love won my heart!

Who would contend with His infinite wisdom?
Who would resist the Source of such wealth?
I share the Messiah and how He astounds me!
Now you must decipher and choose for yourself.

If only you’d soften your heart towards Jesus,
You’d gladly surrender your all to Him too.
If only you’d call out to Christ your Messiah,
You’d love Him forever! If only you knew.

Psalm 34:8
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

Psalm 107:1-2
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Matthew 7:22-25
“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”

Matthew 15:7-9
“Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honour Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

John 14:22-23
“Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.””

Romans 5:7-9
“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”

Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
