No One But Jesus

By Lucy Wall

This is quite a simple little poem but I felt inspired to write it having heard the words "No one but Jesus" spoken during the Church service one week. I thought they made a great title for a poem and so started writing straight away.

I began to think about some of the wonderful benefits of knowing Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and also why He is so different from anyone else who has ever walked the face of the Earth. I was considering why He can claim things that no one else can claim. When it comes to paying for the sins of the world, the Resurrection and eternal life, no one but Jesus will do!

Who could endure that torturous Cross?
No one but Jesus will do.
Who could withstand such harrowing loss?
No one but Jesus will do.

For who loved sinners enough to face
The wrath of God and to take their place?
Who could bestow such amazing grace?
No one but Jesus will do.

Who lived a life that was sinless and pure?
No one but Jesus will do.
Who could provide all mankind with a cure?
No one but Jesus will do.

Who had the strength to defeat death's door?
No one succeeding and no one before.
To think of my Saviour it makes my heart soar.
No one but Jesus will do.

Who can I turn to when troubles abound?
No one but Jesus will do.
Who provides comfort when words can't be found?
No one but Jesus will do.

Whose truth can I lean on when trials cut deep?
Whose words reassure me with peace I can keep?
A harvest of treasures for my heart to reap!
No one but Jesus will do.

To whom am I grateful when blessings pour in?
No one but Jesus will do.
Who to thank daily for covering my sin?
No one but Jesus will do.

Who gives me a reason in life to rejoice?
My soul sings His praises, my heart knows His voice.
The Lord called my spirit to make the right choice!
And no one but Jesus will do.

So whose is the name that I share with my friends?
No one's but Jesus' will do.
Who can give hope to us when this life ends?
No one but Jesus will do.

Who humbled Himself to save you and me?
Who rescued our souls and set us all free?
Who shall I love for eternity?
No one but Jesus will do.

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light."
