I Am The Bread Of Life

John 6:35 reads,

"And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

The "I Am" Statements Of Jesus Christ- "I Am The Bread Of Life."

What a mighty statement! A challenge to perceive!
Jesus gives eternal life to all who will believe!
Salvation is secure for those who call upon His name,
No longer will they hunger and they’ll never thirst again!

Descending from the Heavens to cleanse us from within,
Christ promises to satisfy the soul who comes to Him.
Redeemed for all eternity through blood that He would shed,
Praises to the great “I Am” for He’s our Living Bread!

John 6:47-51
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

1 Corinthians 11:23-26
“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”  In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”

Points For Reflection
I once heard a Pastor say during a sermon, “Never try to make another human being your Saviour. It’s too much pressure to put on another flawed human and they’ll only let you down.”

I thought this was incredibly insightful and so true. In life, we often see people look to others to satisfy them and make them feel complete. Many times, people think that if they get married they’ll never feel lonely or misunderstood again.

The truth is however, only Jesus can fulfil and complete us in the way that we’re looking for. He’s the One who created our souls and put eternity into our hearts and so He’s the only One who can satisfy our deepest needs.

When Jesus made the statement, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst,” He was making the point that He would fulfil the needs of our soul, both in this life and the next.
He promises to be with us, guiding us continually and working through our lives during our time here on Earth. We then have the peace and eternal satisfaction of knowing that we will be united with Him in Heaven in the next life.

When our soul is connected to the God who created us, then we are filled with a sense of purpose, peace and completion in a divine way. Nothing else can provide us with such satisfaction and anything this world has to offer will only leave us feeling hungry and thirsty for more. Temporal things may bring some level of satisfaction for a time but we’ll always be striving and looking for the “next best thing” until we look to Jesus.

Have you accepted Jesus as your Saviour and felt that deep hunger in your soul become satiated by His presence?
If not, what kind of things do you look to in life to bring you a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction? Can those things ever be taken away from you? If so, how do you think you would get by without them?

If you are already a Christian, how does it make you feel to know the presence of Jesus in your heart can never be taken away from you?
How has Christ’s presence in your life sustained you since you gave your heart to Him? Do you still remember what it felt like when your soul thirsted for deeper meaning and purpose?
How does it make you feel to consider that God’s plan for us merely begins in this life and is continued on in the next?

I am personally so grateful for the sense of security and completion that Jesus brings to my heart daily, through His Word and His Holy Spirit.
If you don’t know Jesus today, I’d love to encourage you to get to know Him. This life is fleeting and even though there are some wonderful things to enjoy, there’s so much more than what this world has to offer. Please don’t ignore that sense in your heart that this world can’t be all there is. Jesus created you for great reasons and wants you to get to know Him. Please reach out to someone today and get to know Him more.

If you do know Jesus already, let’s praise the Lord together for the truth that with Christ, we are complete, fulfilled and satisfied wholeheartedly! Glory to God for Jesus Christ, our Living Bread!
