I Am The Resurrection And The Life (Part One)

The fourth instalment in my "I Am" poetry series takes a look at the words of Jesus in John 11:25. The verse reads,

"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.""

For April I'm focusing on the first part of this statement, "I am the resurrection." What a fitting theme for Easter!

The "I Am" Statements Of Jesus Christ- "I Am The Resurrection And The Life." (Part One- I Am The Resurrection)

John 11:25
"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.""

"The power of our mighty God is hard to understand
For even gates of death would fall and bow to His command!
Proving His authority could open up the grave,
Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection set free every slave!

Eternal life secured for all who call upon His name
For though the flesh may die, the soul will live to rise again!
Blesséd is the one who rests in Christ’s divine protection,
Praises to the great “I Am,” for He’s the Resurrection!"

1 Corinthians 15:55
“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”

Points For Reflection
Death is always a sad occasion for the people left behind but death for the Christian is just the beginning of eternity in glory with Jesus! The Apostle Paul even wrote in Philippians 1:21,

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

It’s quite a profound thing to be able to say that we gain when we die but thanks to Christ’s death and resurrection, that’s the wonderful reality for the Christian!
Those who have put their trust in Jesus will gain a heavenly body when they pass from this life into the next. A body that doesn’t get sick or injured, doesn’t grow old, shed tears or feel any pain.
The Christian gains eternal life and access to the realms of Heaven where loved ones who have gone before them will greet them in a reunion! What a beautiful picture!

Those who accepted Jesus as their Saviour in this life will become the complete and perfect creation God always intended them to be. They will also have a unique dwelling place in Heaven full of beauty and wonder, created just for them.

Most importantly, the Christian has an eternity with Jesus to look forward to. Endless days basking in His glory and singing praises to the One who made it possible for mere mortals to come and dwell in His presence!
For the Christian, there truly is everything to gain when we pass from this life into the next thanks to Christ’s resurrection.

In the light of the resurrection, we can really see the truth of the words from 1 Corinthians 15:55. Let’s revisit that Scripture. It reads,

“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”

As I said earlier, death is always a sad occasion but when we know Jesus and know that our loved one has gone into His glorious presence, then the sting truly is taken out of death! When we know Jesus, we have nothing to fear when it comes to death and this is the precious promise of Christ’s resurrection.

The question is, do you have this promise sealed in your heart? Only those who say “to live is Christ” can also say with any assurance, “to die is gain.” Jesus made it clear that He is the resurrection and nobody else. He’s the only One who died to pay for the sins of the world and rose again so He’s the only One who can offer us this guarantee.

Many have made great claims in the past but they all died and went into the grave and stayed in the grave! Jesus Christ is the only One to break the gates of Hades, rise again from the grave and reign from His Throne on high!

Have you put your trust in Jesus? If you haven’t, I would love to encourage you to do so. Ask Him into your heart today, it’s a decision you won’t regret.

All praise and honour to Jesus Christ our Saviour, to the God who is the resurrection!
