I Am The Good Shepherd (Part One)

For 2022, I felt inspired to write a series that focuses on the “I Am” statements of Jesus Christ. I gave myself two verses to express some key elements and truths found within the words of Jesus and what the message is for the listener.

We started the series with "I Am The Door" and now February's "I Am" verses take a look at John 10:11-12 where Jesus says, "I Am The Good Shepherd."

The "I Am" Statements Of Jesus Christ- "I Am The Good Shepherd." (Part One)

John 10:11-12
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.”

"Oh what joyful knowledge to know we’re not alone!
Our faithful Saviour gave His life and came to save His own!
Jesus Christ our Shepherd defends us day and night,
When danger comes He will not leave nor run away in fright.

He stands as our Protector and does not flee in fear.
Our loving Master cares for us and keeps His people near.
Our Lord will not abandon us, a promise dear to keep.
Praises to the great “I Am,” our Shepherd guards His sheep!"

Jeremiah 16:19
“O Lord, my strength and my fortress, My refuge in the day of affliction.”

Points For Reflection
How does it make you feel to know you’re protected by Jesus?
Is there a time in your life when you could clearly see God’s protection working over you? Have you ever thanked God for the times when He’s protected you from unknown dangers that you were completely unaware of?

Are you resting in God’s protection today or are you fearful about a situation that’s going on in your life or how you’ll fare in some difficult circumstances?
If there is something we’re fearful about, let’s bring it before God’s Throne today and ask Him to replace our fear with His perfect peace.

May we thank God in this moment for His protection in our lives so far and commit anything we may be concerned about into His mighty hands. We know He is faithful to protect us, He never takes His eyes away from His children and will guard us each day as we walk closely with Him.
