Wherever Your Love Leads

At the beginning of 2019 I came to the end of another work contract and found myself in the very familiar place of asking the Lord in prayer, “What’s next?”

As a professional performer you have to be able to handle being in and out of work a lot, it’s just the nature of the game. It does mean life can be very unpredictable though and I’m always so grateful for the security that Jesus’ constant love and care brings. Knowing my life is set upon the Rock doesn’t necessarily make things easy to deal with but it certainly brings peace and comfort to my heart as I rest in Christ’s sovereignty. Knowing I’m in God’s hands and that He has a purpose and plan for my life definitely helps me when I’m staring uncertainty in the face!

As time moved further into 2019, different auditions and situations started popping up. Sometimes events even meant a clash in the diary and so I found myself praying the same prayer each time. I would invite Jesus into each situation, ask for wisdom and guidance and always ended up saying from my heart, “Whatever has most Heavenly weight Lord, whatever brings You the most glory. Take me wherever Your love leads.”

It’s not always an easy prayer to pray, especially if I have it in mind that I’d really like to do a particular job! Ultimately though the centre of God’s will is where I want to be so if Jesus isn’t in a particular job or situation then I’m not going to strive for it. I only want to go where His Spirit leads as I know this is where I’ll thrive and be used most efficiently by Him.

It was these thoughts and feelings that lead me to start writing my poem “Wherever Your Love Leads.” I hope this poem can be an encouragement for us all to surrender our lives over to God. Although surrender can be scary, we serve the God who left His Throne to come and save us so He is more than worthy to be trusted! I’ve heard it said that God doesn’t do great things through great people, He does great things through surrendered people!

Even if our path is bumpy and crooked and we can’t understand it, Jesus knows what He’s doing. He guides us in His infinite wisdom and love so we can follow Him with true assurance and confidence. Let’s surrender to the God who surrendered everything for us and let Him be the Author of our story. May we cast all our finite hopes and dreams at His feet today and instead pray whole heartedly, “Wherever Your love leads Lord!”
Wherever Your love leads me Lord is where I want to go.
Your purposes fulfilled I long to see.
You bought me with Your blood so that redemption I may know.
No longer is it I who live but Christ who lives in me.

Wherever Your love leads me Lord, direct me from above.
May I seek Your will and not my own.
Guide me to the weary souls who need to know Your love,
Lead me to the places where best I’ll serve Your Throne.

Whatever has eternal weight, give me this to do.
Salvation for the lost I yearn to see.
Beginning with surrender Lord, I give my days to You,
I’m ready and I’m willing Father. Here am I! Send me!

Paint an awesome picture with the canvas of my life,
Use resplendent colours in my story.
Though there be the darker hues that symbolise the strife,
Use them Lord to emphasise Your goodness and Your glory.

You’re God of all Creation and the Saviour of my soul
So whether paths be easy or a trial,
I bow down to Your Sovereignty for You are in control.
I know You’ll bless me with the strength I need to face each mile.

Wherever Your love leads me Lord may I boldly venture,
Remove the limitations of my dreams.
Keep me in Your presence for Your fellowship I treasure.
May my heart be filled with joy and bursting at the seams!

Whether tasks be great or small help me serve You fully,
In faithfulness You always meet my needs.
Let me be a witness for the God who loves us truly.
May I walk with confidence, wherever Your love leads.

Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Isaiah 6:8
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.””

Psalm 25:4-5
“Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.”
