Fifty Years

I wrote this poem especially for my Mother and Father in law to help mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary. My hope is that the poem may be shared and used to bless other godly couples who are also celebrating this wonderful occasion!

Fifty years of marriage! Can you quite believe?
Fifty years of happiness not many can achieve.
Barely more than children when first you shared a gaze;
The moment when you saw the one with whom you'd spend your days.

Did either of you know this was your journey at the start
Or sense how much the other one would captivate your heart?
Fifty years together! A thought we must embrace.
Half a century and five decades of God's grace.

Think of all the laughter and the happy times you've seen.
Picture all the tender hugs and smiles there must have been.
Think of the adventures through the seasons of all weather,
Stronger in the trials as you faced the storms together.

Fifty years of teamwork and living as a pair.
Fifty years of selflessness and showing that you care.
Fifty years of partnership and walking side by side,
Your life a true example of our Saviour with His bride.

Depths of love and faithfulness to which we all aspire,
A godly illustration and a marriage to admire.
Here's to many years to come so bless them Lord we pray.
We celebrate a golden couple on their golden day!

Ephesians 5:25-29
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of the water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church."
