This month, we have an extra devotional from my series, "When I Feel..." as there is an extra week in July!
Last week we had a look at, "When I Feel...Content." This week I thought I would focus on the very common situation of, "When I Feel...Worried About Someone."
If you're worried or concerned about a loved one today, I pray this poem, the Scriptures and meditation can comfort and encourage you. God bless you and lots of love, Lucy x

Whether they be friend or they be sister or a brother,
When my mind is overrun with fears that never cease,
Take these fretful thoughts O Lord and fill me with Your peace.
Help me bring their situation now, before Your Throne,
Trusting You are in control and I am not alone.
Fill me with Your presence Lord, should they be near or far
And may I rest in knowing You can meet them where they are.
Draw Your Spirit close to them and overrule this strife.
May we see Your perfect plan and purpose for their life.
Fill them with a quiet strength in spite of all the sorrow,
Give them hope and let them see a joyful, bright tomorrow.
Use these times to help us grow and bring about Your story,
Utilise this season, Lord and may it bring You glory!
Let worry claim no energy, let time be spent in prayer.
May it drive us to Your Throne, for You will meet us there!
Whatever be the lesson here, help us see Your will.
Keep us steadfast in Your ways and draw us closer, still.
Teach us of Your faithfulness and may Your peace now reign.
Take away all worry as we rest in Jesus’ name."
Matthew 6:27 & 34
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Isaiah 26:3-4
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”
Philippians 4:6-7
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Heart Check
Am I worried about someone I care about? Is there a person in my life who’s going through a hard time or is a loved one in trouble or pain? Am I worried about someone who isn’t saved and I fear for their eternity? Am I concerned that a brother or sister in Christ isn’t doing well spiritually and they don’t seem to be growing in the Lord?
Whatever may be giving us cause to worry about another today, the best thing we can do is bring it before the Lord in prayer. I’ve heard it said that worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it gets you nowhere. Hours of our lives and endless amounts of energy can be utterly wasted on the fruitless and futile task of worrying.
Another saying I’ve heard in regards to worry is, “If you worry about something that doesn’t come to pass, you worried once and for nothing. If you worry about something that does come to pass, you doubled your sorrow.”
No wonder Scripture tells us quite clearly not to worry. Our energy is far better spent being channeled through prayer and our own faith can actually grow as we learn to surrender our worry over to the Lord and leave the situation in His hands.
Prayer lifts us out of the earthly realm where we feel we can do nothing and brings us into the Heavenly Courts where God’s power means anything is possible!
If we are worried about someone or something today, let’s take that anxious thought captive and bring it under the authority of Jesus Christ. Let’s cast that care before His Throne and ask Him to replace our nervous, stress-filled fretting with His perfect, divine and untouchable peace. Let’s invite the power of Heaven into the situation and rest as we trust our Almighty God to work out His perfect plan and in His perfect time.
